Commercial law firm Schalast opens office in Hamburg / Ernst Georg Berger to head Hamburg office and the new practice group Telecommunications & Energy
Frankfurt based commercial law firm Schalast is opening an office in Hamburg on 1 July 2017. It will be headed by Dr Ernst Georg Berger. He is joining Schalast as a partner and will also be heading the newly formed practice group Telecommunications & Energy.
As explained by founding partner Professor Dr Christoph Schalast: "Ernst Georg Berger is returning as a valued friend and excellent colleague. Numerous awards show his high level of expertise, in particular in the telecommunications sector. We will sustainably strengthen our expertise and our presence with his drive and comprehensive experience." He also said that the metropolitan region of Hamburg belongs to the most important economic areas in Germany and Europe and offers Schalast enormous potential. Ultimately, however, he said that the focus would be on clients from northern Germany, who can be assisted and advised optimally from our office in the Hanseatic city.
Dr Ernst Georg Berger was born in Hamburg and after completing his studies, legal internship and doctoral thesis, he initially worked as in-house counsel for British Telecom (BT Germany) and Quam. He became a partner at Schalast in 2004. In 2008, he was a co-founder of the specialist information and communications technology law firm SBR Schuster Berger Bahr Ahrens in Hamburg, which later merged with the firm Fieldfisher LLP, where Dr Ernst Georg Berger became an equity partner in the area Regulatory. In 2015, he established CLARIUS.LEGAL, whose managing director he remains. His work as a lawyer focuses on the areas of telecommunications, IT, media and energy. He is now becoming a partner at Schalast and will be heading the new Hamburg office as well as the practice group Telecommunications & Energy. He is also a member of the practice groups IP, Media & Technology and Litigation.
Dr Ernst Georg Berger said he was very much looking forward to collaborating with old and new colleagues. "Schalast has developed fantastically and is one of the top addresses in its segment. We want to strengthen this position together."
The practice group Telecommunications & Energy at Schalast
On 1 July, Schalast is establishing the new practice group Telecommunications & Energy. "With this step, we are returning somewhat to our roots," explains Professor Dr Christoph Schalast and reports that clients from telecommunications companies were a major focus when the law firm was founded. He said that "the telecommunications and energy sectors are still facing major challenges today: secure, reliable and high-performance networks and infrastructure, increasing digitalisation, data privacy issues and national and European regulatory requirements are examples of some of the tasks which companies in these sectors have to address. Our new practice group is here to assist them with its legal expertise."
