Heinz L. Bauer, born in Jena, studied law at the Universities of Frankfurt am Main, Geneva and Göttingen. He received his PhD from the University of Göttingen in 1970.
After his legal internship, part of which he completed at the German-Italian Chamber of Commerce in Milan, he was admitted to the bar in 1968. His career began in Stuttgart at the law firm Lichtenstein, Janssen und Körner, and continued in Frankfurt am Main, where he was appointed as notary in 1978.
As a notary he was specialized in the areas corporate law and real estate law, and also notarized documents in various Romance languages.
He is co-founder of the German-Italian Association in Frankfurt am Main and was for many years a delegate of the Federal Association of Notaries to the European Affairs Commission of the (CAE) of the International Union of Notaries. He is also a member of the Academic Association for International Procedural Law.
